"American folk singer-songwriter David Wilcox will be making an appearance at Prince George’s Coldsnap Festival, playing January 29. Wilcox has sold more than 750,000 discs in the 30 years he’s been writing music, and has just released his 17th album, Reverie, which was recorded in front of a live audience. The majority of songs were written by Wilcox alone, but several songs also involved in singer/songwriters Gary Jules and Billy Jonas. Wilcox joins other artists for the festival, including Sultans of String among others."

"B.C.’s premier winter music festival used to be the summery Prince George Folkfest, until organizers decided four years ago that cool tunes were better when the mercury drops. Now the soundchecks start when the snow piles deep, with a broad spectrum of musical styles: everything from roots to jazz. Previous performers have included Joel Plaskett and Great Lake Swimmers. This year’s lineup: Canadian, Polaris Top 10 rapper shad, Indie pop-folkies Basia Bhulat and Celtic partiers the Paperboys, among others. January 21 to 29 at various local venues."

Sugar And Spice by Basia Bulat

your voice takes me out of my skin

(via canadianmusic)

"Aidan Knight’s Friendly Fire’s EP follows his acclaimed debut Versicolour, an 8 song collection of haunted chamber-folk and orchestral pop that saw him turning heads and gaining momentum throughout 2010. The EP leading up to Aidan’s second full-length is comprised of two new songs, Side A’s “Friendly Fires” and Side B’s “Lambics”, and was recorded over 4 days with Knight’s friends and collaborators; Olivier Clements (Flugelhorn, Wurlitzer, Percussion), David Barry (Guitar, Percussion) and Colin Nealis (Viola, Bass) of The O’ Darling and Julia Wakal (Flugelhorn, Omnichord, Glockenspiel)."

"It’s small, but Prince George has got lots of local venues and independent bands,” says the music fan. “Dan Mangan was here recently. We also have Coldsnap, a winter music festival. I saw Joel Plaskett last year. It was awesome."

Basia Bulat LIVE in Vancouver on the CBC Radio 3 Sessions Podcast

“Last March, Basia Bulat came to Vancouver to perform songs from her latest album, Heart of My Own. Recorded at the cozy, historic St. James Hall in residential Vancouver, the concert had a special intimacy.”

"Recently, Aidan Knight stepped out into the spotlight from behind the curtain and boy, did he impress! If you don’t believe us, listen to some of his first LP (Versicolour) below! Knight also just won some money from The Peak FM, which is to go towards his music career. Like what you hear below? Check out more on his SoundCloud page!"
